Background of the Study
Access to financial resources is one of the most significant challenges faced by female politicians in Nigeria, particularly in Jalingo Local Government Area, Taraba State (Mustapha & Shehu, 2023). Political campaigns in Nigeria require substantial funding for logistics, media coverage, voter outreach, and other campaign-related activities. However, women’s access to campaign funding is often limited by cultural norms, gender bias, and a lack of networks to facilitate financial support (Bello & Ibrahim, 2024). This issue is exacerbated by the male-dominated nature of political financing structures, where women often struggle to access the resources needed to compete effectively in elections (Gambo & Salihu, 2025). This study aims to examine the extent to which women in Jalingo have access to political campaign funding and the impact this has on their ability to succeed in political contests.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Women in Jalingo Local Government Area face considerable difficulties in accessing political campaign funds, which are crucial for the success of their electoral ambitions. These difficulties stem from both institutional barriers within political party structures and societal attitudes that undermine women’s political roles (Aminu & Garba, 2023). Without adequate financial resources, female politicians are at a disadvantage when competing against their male counterparts, leading to reduced representation of women in political offices. This study explores the barriers to campaign funding for women in Jalingo and how these challenges impact their electoral outcomes.
